Load balancing is recommended for high traffic websites or application servers where only one web or application server isn't enough or if you require a high availability on your web services.
How it all works
When your infrastructure has load balancing implemented the router
learns multiple routes (or paths) to the specific network via routing processes or protocols.
Once the routes are mapped the load balancer will send each different request to your service (Web or Application) to different servers in the cluster running your services.
Load balancing not only adds a level of redundancy to your infrastructure
but also increases performance for your end users depending on the size of your cluster which can be easily upgraded as your infrastructure requirements grow.
